How Do I Join???WHEN CAN I START? If you already play an instrument or are returning to an instrument you used to play, you may join at any time during the year (see calendar for when we are rehearsing). OR... if you are an experienced player on an instrument but want to start something new; we may be able to spin off one of the teachers to give you some instruction and you'll be ready to jump in to the group just a few weeks and play the easier pieces. (Check in with Diane) Want to begin an instrument for the first time? The best bet is to get some private lessons as that is the quickest way to progress. Then talk to Diane about when you can come play with the group. Usually you will be ready by the time you can understand playing eighth notes and have a range of around an octave and a half (over the break in clarinets). Do not wait until "you are ready" because you will never feel ready! (Follow this link to learn more about "ready"!) GET AN INSTRUMENT You may already have an instrument. If it is an old one that hasn't been played in years, be sure to get it repaired (I mean, would you buy a car that hasn't been driven in 20 years and not take it in for a check up and tune up???). If you need to purchase an instrument there are many stores in the area, but please do not purchase the cheapest instrument - you really get what you pay for and often it is impossible to get parts for the cheapies when they break, and then you have to put out more money for a new instrument! Talk to Diane if you need advice. HOW DO I SIGN UP? Email or call Diane (see contact us page) Come try out rehearsal before you register - talk to/email Diane before you come. In order to provide a quality time with quality instructors there is a tuition charge. There are scholarships available for those who can not afford the tuition, but still want to play in the group. Call or email Diane. WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT??? Don't stay! If you are unsure, I urge you to come for a week and try it out before you register and pay for the semester.
