We use ProTools 8 by Digidesign as one of our recording means.  The site has information on the software, uses, FAQs, etc.

We also use the MicroTrack II handheld recorder. The FAQs section is very useful!

STUDY GUIDES for our certifications

Basic Equipment - The first certification STAR Crew members should earn.  Download the following:

Equipment 1 (for M-Box and ProTools) - Gets you ready to be able to setup and run a recording system using the M-Box and ProTools. Download the following:

MicroTrackII, level 1 - To prepare you to be able to record with the MicroTrack II unit. Download the following:

Audacity, Level 1 - To give you an overview of the Audacity Program, so you know what it can do, are fluent with the vocabulary and know some of the details.  Download the following:

Audacity, Level 2 - Will teach you how to go about making a slide show background which you can use in a podcast or a powerpoint presentation and also helps you learn more about the details of what Audacity can do.

Editing our Concert Tracks - This pdf is the instructions for the way we want to edit our files.  The certification test is simply editing a file correctly (you may use the instructions). Download the following:

  • Editing Sound Files
  • file0211.wav A sound file, recorded on the MicroTrackII, for your practice.  Pretend it was the 5th piece on the concert and its full title is "Valdres March", so you could title it "05Valdres"
  • Download audacity if you don't have it (it is free and cross platform) see "Audacity" menu above, or go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

ProTools Levels 1 - Level 1 is required to be able to record with ProTools. Level 2 moves into more advanced material. Download the following:
